Block Captains,

Please send out to members ASAP.

Hi Donna, A resident on Glenside Dr. called me and told me that at approximately 00:30 Monday ,  they were awoken by someone pounding on their storm door .  Whomever it was took off as soon as he turned on his interior lights.  They quickly called Police.  Police did a perimeter check of their home, and told them they would drive around the neighborhood a few times to see if they could spot any people about.

Please report all of your incidents to the police (no matter how petty you think they are) they may be a piece to the larger puzzle.

Thank you,

------------------------------

Hi Block Captains this was just sent to me last night, so it is a little bit old but still something to be aware of and to watch for.  Please distribute!

Hi Bill,

I wanted you to be aware of something that happened today.  My husband was outside, we live across from the park.  It was10:45am and our daughters wanted to run around the park. They were running on the sidewalk around the corner of Dalton and Scarlet when they saw a white female in a silver PT Cruiser taking pictures of them.  She had brown shoulder length hair in her 20-30's.  My girls ran straight home and let my husband, who is a police officer , know what happened.  He had seen them running back and knew something was wrong.  He got in his car and tried to follow/find the car, who speed away quickly when the girls ran away, but was unable to find it.  A police report was filed.

Please let the neighborhood watch know and especially parents.

Village of Bolingbrook to Begin Adult Mosquito Control Efforts

Village of Bolingbrook, IL.  August 10, 2010 – Local authorities in the Village of Bolingbrook have announced that adult mosquito control applications will take place this August between dusk and dawn, as conditions warrant.

The Village of Bolingbrook has been working with Clarke, an environmental products and service company, to help reduce the exploding mosquito population this summer,” said Michael J. Drey, P.E., Director Public Works & Engineering .  “In addition, West Nile virus has been detected in the area”.

Recent heavy rains along with high temperatures have created the perfect conditions for a mosquito ‘super brood’.  “And with more expected rainfall, the number of mosquitoes that are hatching are going to be huge,” said Jack Thennisch, control consultant for Clarke. “This situation requires adulticide applications to break the breeding cycle of the mosquitoes.”

Spraying will commence on Saturday, August 14 th .   Adulticiding attacks adult mosquitoes with a truck-mounted application of ultra-low volume spray.  All insecticides used have been approved specifically for this purpose and are regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  However, if people wish to avoid potential exposure to insecticide they should stay indoors and close the windows during spraying hours.

Bolingbrook residents can call the Clarke Mosquito Hotline to report standing water and get advice on reducing the risk for West Nile.  The hotline is available at 800-942-2555.

In addition to community control initiatives, residents can take these additional steps to reduce mosquito populations around their homes this summer, including:

·          Remove or empty water in old tires, tin cans, buckets, drums, bottles or other places where mosquitoes might breed.

·          Empty plastic wading pools at least once a week and store indoors when not in use.  If unused, drain swimming pools and keep dry.

·          Change water weekly in bird baths , plant saucers and trays.

·          Water bowls used by pets should be emptied and refilled daily.

·          Fill holes around home that may retain water.

·          Keep gutters around home in good repair to avoid water build-up.

·          Keep weeds and grass cut short, as adult mosquitoes look for shady places to rest during hot daylight hours.

·          Be sure screens in homes are intact and tight-fitting to prevent entry of insects.

·          Use insect repellant and wear long-sleeved shirts and pants when going outdoors.

IMPORTANT ALERT!!!!!  PLEASE READ TO THE END.

Block Captains,

Please send out to members ASAP.

On the morning of July 21 approximately12:15 am 4 Males walked up to a home on Glenside Dr. ringing the door bell and yelling for help, they needed help. When the home owner woke up they did not answer the door but rather called police. While they were waiting for police they could see one of the males standing back of the house as what appeared as a look out. After a few minutes or so they 4 males, 3 African American and 1 white ran away before police could get there but the police did indicate that they were trying to get the homeowner to open the door so that they could get inside. It appears that they have a car parked close by as the police arrived just after the 4 left and the police could not find them walking in the area at all. PLEASE DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOORS TO ANYONE DURING THE NIGHT, if you do not know they are coming but rather call the police. Pass this on to all your neighbors just in case they are not on the watch list.

Also this was reported to me by another member so be on the lookout for this too, this may be related to the above incident.

Hey Donna, have you heard of any mishaps in our subdivision lately?? Last week I had a friend over and someone through a slushee at his car.....last night my daughter had a friend over and this morning when she left  someone had thrown a glass object with something in it at her car.....just wondering if it has something to do with my house/family or if it's random...."

Please report all of your incidents to the police (no matter how petty you think they are) they may be a piece to the larger puzzle.

Block Captains, Please send this on to your members.

Another member sent this to us with additional information that is probable related to this morning’s incident…PLEASE CALL THE POLICE IF YOU SEE ANY OF THIS ACTIVITY in either our subdivision or Southgate park

FYI today around 12:30 this afternoon, entering south gate from somerfield a maroon/dark red car unsure of make and model (appeared to be forign, honda, toyota?) was stopped curbside, vehicle contained 3 black males and 1 white male (white male in passenger seat with tablet of paper). Also, I alone saw this vehicle parked curbside at sapphire and glenside at approx.11:30am same occupants including white male with tablet in passenger seat.

This person did not call the police but did note that it seemed odd, and then when he came home tonight and saw the email alert wished he would have called as he thought that it might be related. This member also told me that he had a friend in Joliet that saw this kind of activity in his neighborhood and that several houses were then robbed afterwards, so Please take notice of our Neighborhood and catch them before they do break into one of our homes.

Another member also reported to me this today:

The same group was on my street last night. I heard a lot of loud yelling at 12:30-12:45.  There was a group of 2 black males (older teens?) and another group of 3 (not sure ethnicity as they were further away) going south on Somerfield fromGlenside and I watched them walk in the street until they turned on Schoenherr. I didn't call the police as they were just loud and walking in the street. If they had stopped in any yards, I would have called. There was also a loud (exhaust) small red 2 door car following them (civic size w/ a spoiler).

Again, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of calling the police when you see this kind of activity, Kids/young adults SHOULD NOT BE WALKING AROUND OUTSIDE AT THAT TIME OF NIGHT…they are usually always up to no good so please call the police and it might be a piece of the overall puzzle.

Thanks Members for adding to the puzzle and lets nab this before anything happens to our homes. Thank you!

Block Captains, this came from one of your captains to their block and I thought it was such good information I wanted to share with all the Members. Thanks Deane for putting this together.

Watch Members,

Just a reminder to please remember to turn on your exterior lights at night! Turning on your lights is one of the easiest and most effective ways to lower the risk of crime at your home. Considering last night's attempt by 4 teens to gain entry in a neighborhood home, we strongly encourage you to have your garage, entrance, and back porch lights on at night. The average cost to light a 100-watt incandescent bulb is less than a PENNYan hour - that's less than $3 a MONTH to help keep your home safe! Fluorescent bulbs cost even less.

In case you weren't aware, the Bolingbrook Police Department offers FREE 'Residential and Commercial Security Surveys'. Upon request, a member of the Bolingbrook Crime Prevention Unit will come to your home or business and evaluate your need for additional security. This takes anywhere from 30minutes and up dependant on your particular needs. This is a FREE service! ( http://www.bolingbrook.com/index.php?page_id=33 )

Also, here are a couple of websites you may find useful regarding tips for safe environmental design:

- Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Citizen Information:  http://www.w0ipl.net/cpted.htm

Thanks to everyone for helping keep our neighborhood safe! As always, please report any suspicious activity to the police, and relay details to the neighborhood watch so they can be distributed.

Block Captains,

Please send on to members…We really need to watch our houses closely! Please read to the bottom as there are 3 different incidents I believe all related….AND CALL THE POLICE OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND ONE OF THESE TIMES THEY WILL GET CAUGHT!!!

Member # 1 sent this to me lives on Somerfield Dr :

Incident #1:

Our dog recently got out of our yard and retrieved by our neighbor. In order to determine how Mr. Houdini the dog escaped, the neighbor pointed out that the gate to our backyard was open. Now since we have a puppy, we are very cognizant to the status of the gate. The concerning part is that the dog was sent to tinkle less than 45 minutes earlier and the gate was definitely shut. At this time, our son spoke up that he saw a black individual wearing a black shirt in the backyard looking in through the back window several days earlier. We didn’t notify the police because of the elapse in time.

Since then we have had several odd occurrences in the backyard such as a drain pipe that has been knocked off the house as if someone accidentally hit it as they were rounding the back corner and our gazebo is missing all of the nuts holding the tarp aloft.

Incident #2:

There was a silver car (late model jetta) filled with young individuals that stopped in the middle of the street, Tuesday Morning @ 3:50 am. I just happened to be up and looking for something in the garage with the door open. I didn’t pay any attention because I thought it may have been a paper guy. It wasn’t until after I heard the running of one of the occupants returning to the car that I started heading to the end of the driveway to investigate. As they passed heading west on Somerfield, all I could make out was the description of the car which I didn’t feel was enough information to pass onto the police. Later I noticed that the car returned driving south on Dalton and then proceeding east on Somerfield.

Member # 2 sent this to me lives on Schoenherr:

Hello all,

I just wanted to let you all know also, that yesterday (Wednesday), My Husband saw this same type of car described below parked curbside in front of one of our neighbors house at approx. 9:00 ish a.m.. He saw two African/American males (tall/skinny) come out of the car and walk to the back of the house. He did call police, who came out to investigate, but did not find anyone/anything.

Member # 3 sent this to me lives onGlenside:

I just called the Police on a white car with license plate #897 0139. They were parked on Sapphire beforeGlenside. One male was out of the car and looking over my fence. When he saw me in the bay window, he ran back to his car where there were three other males ( 3 black and one white) and took off. Maybe they are using a different car? Either way, I called the police and two cars came out and looked around the area. This happened at 5:10 today. Please send something out and let everyone know to really be on the lookout.
